THE INAUGURAL SOLID SCREEN FESTIVAL was in July 2014


 cyberTribe was pleased to present the SOLID SCREEN FESTIVAL which was held near Ravenshoe in Far North Queensland on Sunday the 20th July, 2014.

SOLID Screen is an International Indigenous Festival of the screen, the first of which was held at Innot Hot Springs and open to the public. 

 Solid Screen includes a range of work from screen queens that specialise in a range of contemporary practices. The screenings respond to important transformations that have reconfigured opportunities for experimental arts, remix and media practice, internationally, in recent times.

We aim to deliver Indigenous specific screen components to allow opportunities for Indigenous screen artists and artsworkers to develop professionally, develop greater understanding of new media and inter-disciplinary practices, and gain critical feedback on personal projects.

The Far North of Australia has a great depth of Indigenous arts practice, with a prolific visual arts industry, and we wish to compliment this strength and provide opportunities and experiences for Indigenous practitioners to engage with other mediums for expression, and also explore, document and celebrate screen history in the established forms of Television, Film making and other experimental and Performing Arts. 

 In the Far North there are also a number of number of Indigenous artists already working in performance, installation, video and photography mediums, providing a great networking opportunity for the creation of future works.

SOLID SCREENING LISMORE 2024

Bundjalung women storytellers will be screening for International Womens Day celebrating their unique and valuable contributions to Indigenous screen culture at Lismore Womens Festival on campus at Southern Cross University, presented by cyberTribe . In the gathering spirit, Jenny Fraser has curated a Solid Screening of short films made on Bundjalung Country, Eelemarni : the story of Leo and Leva by Lorraine Mafi-Williams 1988 featuring Aunty Millie Boyd, Nguura Muruy 2023 by Sandy Greenwood featuring Gumbaynggirr Custodians and allies, and DURANGEN by Jenny Fraser 2023 also featuring Bundjalung native plant artists Euphemia Bostock, Faith Baisden, Deidre Currie, Tania Marlowe and Jasmin Stanford. The event is a gift to the community so all women, men and children are welcome to attend this free screening. The event kicks off at SCU Lismore at 11.45am sharp 8 March 2024, and there will also be a short time in the 2 hour session for some yarning over tea in joyful tribute of genera
